Larry Treat is the current owner of our firm. A native of small-town Arkansas, he graduated with honors from the University of Arkansas School of Law in Fayetteville. His academic achievements include serving as a research assistant to a law professor, publishing a legal journal article, and serving on the board of an academic law journal. Larry joined the Estate and Elder Law Planning Center in 2019 and quickly became an integral part of the firm. His dedication to providing customized, cutting-edge estate plans earned the trust of the firm’s founder, D. Randall Drake, who chose Larry to carry on his legacy. As part of the firm’s succession plan, Larry officially took ownership on January 1, 2023, ensuring the continuation of the firm’s exceptional services.
One unique thing about Larry is that he has muscular dystrophy and uses a wheelchair. But other than mobility restrictions and some respiratory weakness, Larry is very healthy. During client meetings, he uses a C-PAP machine with a nasal pillow mask to reduce strain on his breathing. It is not oxygen; only a bit of air pressure to help take some of the strain off of his respiratory muscles. He welcomes any questions about his condition.
Outside of work, Larry is a classic car enthusiast. Feel free to ask him about his 1983 Squarebody Chevy truck, which he’s had since he was 17!
Sam Berry is a graduate of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock - Bowen School of Law, where he worked in the Low-Income Tax Clinic helping clients navigate tax issues. Robin has been serving in the Firm’s Trust Administration Department for over seventeen years. As we always tell our clients, we understand that even though the person they select to serve as their trustee is trustworthy and will do their best, that person likely hasn’t ever gone to “trustee school”. That is where our Trust Administration Department comes in. This department provides support and guidance to our clients’ selected trustees and representatives to help them navigate the complexities of administering a trust or estate after the client has passed away. Our trust administration department is here to help as much or as little as the representative may need.
Kristan began with our firm as a paralegal and is now another invaluable team member in our Trust Administration Department. She facilitates trust and estate administration, prepares trust and estate accounting, and provides bill pay services.
Jana has been with our firm for many years, serving in various departments. She currently serves in our Trust and Administration Department facilitating trust and estate administration, preparing trust and estate accounting, and providing bill pay services.
One thing that sets our firm apart is our commitment to ensuring that the estate plans our attorneys design are properly funded. If a client has a trust, our funding department makes sure assets are titled in the name of the trust, so it functions as intended. If a trust isn’t the best fit for the client, we ensure each asset has proper beneficiary designations. Without these steps, assets may end up in probate court. While many attorneys leave funding to the client, we know it can be overwhelming and it often goes unfinished. Sue, one of our funding coordinators, will guide you through the process and do as much of it for you as she can to help you avoid probate and ensure your assets go where you intend as smoothly as possible.
Jennifer, our second funding coordinator, assists clients with asset funding and beneficiary designations to help ensure your custom tailored plan does its job in avoiding probate court and directing your assets to the individuals or charities you wish to receive them.
Myranda helps draft probate pleadings and acts as the key liaison between personal representatives of probate estates and the probate attorney. Myranda's primary goal is to help ensure smooth navigation of court proceedings and effective administration of probate estates. Myranda also serves as the Firm's primary legal assistant in establishing and maintaining corporate entities and assists in preparing court pleadings for guardianships.
Mayra assists clients in need of long-term care by implementing custom asset protection plans designed by the elder law attorney for Medicaid eligibility. She helps ensure each plan is fully executed to safeguard assets, working side-by-side with clients or their representatives. Once the client is financially qualified, Mayra guides them through the complex Medicaid application process to help secure benefits smoothly.
Deanna assists the attorneys as they prepare custom tailored plans through legal documents such as wills, trusts, and powers of attorney. She also serves as a liaison between the client and the attorney and works closely with clients to gather necessary information to ensure that the final documents fully align with the client's wishes.
Holt is another paralegal at our firm. He assists the attorneys in preparing legal documents, including wills, trusts, and powers of attorney, and serves as a liaison between the client and the attorney. In addition, Holt leverages his tech savviness to streamline processes and improve efficiency within the firm. His knowledge of technology helps ensure that our operations run smoothly, ultimately enhancing the client’s overall experience by making the estate planning process faster and more seamless.
One of the things that sets the Estate and Elder Law Planning Center apart is its recognition of the overlap in legal and medical services in the world of estate planning and elder law. Our Firm
has historically combined the two by employing a medical professional to serve as an advocate for our clients. Christy is not employed by the Firm, but through her own independent business, Wellness Workshop, she helps our Firm continue to integrate medical services into the legal field. Christy offers her medical expertise to help assess our clients’ medical needs and provides advocacy for needed
medical services if our clients wish to retain her services.
Verna handles the Firm’s bookkeeping and oversees the day-to-day operations, ensuring everything runs smoothly and efficiently. Her organizational skills keep the office functioning at its best, allowing the team to focus on serving clients. In addition to her professionalism, Verna's friendly and pleasant demeanor creates a positive and welcoming environment for both staff and clients.
